Built for
Hard Ground

Deep excavation requires more than horsepower. It demands soil analysis, shoring expertise, water management, and the experience to adapt when the ground surprises you. Albanese D&S Inc. has been solving these problems for contractors, developers, and municipalities across Massachusetts for decades.

Foundation Excavation

Precision cuts for deep foundations, basements, and below-grade structures. We coordinate with structural engineers for shoring plans before the first bucket swings.

Utility Trenching

Deep utility corridors for water, sewer, gas, and electrical. Trench boxes and shoring keep crews safe at depth. We work alongside utility companies from design through backfill.

Shoring & Retention

Sheet pile, trench box, and soldier pile systems for confined excavations. Designed for urban lots, tight easements, and adjacent-structure protection.

Dewatering

High-capacity groundwater management using wellpoints, submersible pumps, and gravity drainage. We keep the bottom of the excavation dry so work can proceed on schedule.

Rock & Ledge Removal

Blasting, hydraulic hammering, and sawcutting for ledge and boulder removal. New England bedrock doesn't stop us — we have the equipment and permits to handle it.

Soil Classification & Disposal

On-site classification per OSHA 1926 Subpart P. Contaminated soil handled through licensed disposal channels. Clean material stockpiled or reused to reduce haul costs.

The Field
Protocol

Every deep excavation project follows a structured sequence. Skipping steps is how accidents and cost overruns happen. We don't skip steps.

Step 01
Site Investigation

Soil borings, utility locates, and adjacent-structure survey. No assumptions about what's underground.

Step 02
Engineered Plan

Shoring design, dewatering plan, haul routes, and permit coordination delivered before mobilization.

Step 03
Controlled Excavation

Phased cuts, real-time monitoring of shoring loads and groundwater, daily progress reporting.

Step 04
Handoff & Backfill

Clean substrate delivered to your structural trades. Controlled backfill with compaction testing to spec.

Where We
Get Called In

Deep excavation is required across a wide range of project types. We've worked in all of them.

Residential & Multi-Family

Deep basements, in-law suites, and below-grade parking for housing projects across Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

Commercial & Industrial

Loading docks, equipment pits, elevator shafts, and structural foundations for warehouses, manufacturing, and office buildings.

Municipal Infrastructure

Water main replacements, sewer interceptors, pump station vaults, and culvert installations for municipalities and utilities.

Stormwater & Retention

Underground detention chambers, infiltration systems, and deep catch basin installations requiring careful excavation sequencing.

Remediation & Environmental

Contaminated soil removal under environmental oversight. Proper manifesting, licensed transport, and documentation throughout the dig.

Bridge & Retaining Structures

Abutment and pier excavation in tight tolerances. Cofferdam work and bridge reconstruction projects across New England roadways.

Operational
Standards

Our fleet is maintained for reliability at depth. Safety is not a checklist — it's how we plan every cut.
