From Subgrade
To Surface

Road construction isn't just paving. It's everything under the road that keeps the surface from failing in three years — proper subbase, tight drainage, and compaction you can verify. We do all of it.

Full-Depth Reconstruction

Complete pavement removal from curb to curb, subbase replacement, and new pavement section built to current design standards. Drainage upgraded as part of the work.

Pavement Rehabilitation

Milling and overlay, reclamation, and in-place recycling for roadways that need structural improvement without full reconstruction. MassDOT spec pavement mixes.

Curb & Sidewalk

Granite curb, concrete curbing, ADA-compliant ramps, and concrete sidewalk installed in coordination with roadway reconstruction or as standalone programs.

Roadway Drainage

Catch basin installation, drain line replacement, and outfall structures built as an integral part of every road project. Drainage sizing coordinated with design engineers.

Intersection Reconstruction

Complex intersection geometry, signal foundations, ADA ramp layouts, and traffic management for busy urban intersections. Sequence and staging planned before mobilization.

Subbase & Grading

Subgrade preparation, processed gravel placement, and compaction testing to specified density — the foundation work that determines how long the pavement above it lasts.

The Field
Protocol

Road reconstruction is a sequencing problem as much as a construction problem. Getting utilities, drainage, subbase, and paving in the right order — and coordinating with traffic — is where schedules fail or hold.

Step 01
Demo & Utility Work

Pavement demolition, catch basin replacement, and any underground utility work completed and backfilled before subbase placement begins. Utilities don't go in after gravel is down.

Step 02
Subbase & Grading

Subgrade compaction, processed gravel subbase placed in lifts and compacted to 95% per spec. Grades cut to plan — no eyeballing. Curbing set before final gravel.

Step 03
Paving

Binder course paved and compacted. Handicap ramps formed. Wearing course scheduled after binder has settled and surface inspected. Paving mix and plant coordinated to meet spec.

Step 04
Striping & Closeout

Permanent traffic striping, ADA marking, and sign restoration. As-built grades submitted. Punchlist cleared before final acceptance — no open items at closeout.

Where We
Build It

Municipal street programs, state highway rehabilitation, private way reconstruction, and commercial site roadways — our crews and equipment are configured for public-works road work.

Municipal Street Programs

Annual road improvement programs for towns and cities — full-depth reconstruction of deteriorated streets with drainage, curb, sidewalk, and ADA improvements included.

State Highway Rehabilitation

MassDOT-administered rehabilitation programs — milling, overlay, and targeted full-depth work on state-numbered routes. We work to MUTCD and MassDOT standard specifications.

Private Way Reconstruction

Privately owned roadways reconstructed to municipal standards — for developers, condominiums, and private associations that need a road built to last, not just resurfaced.

Roadway Drainage Programs

Catch basin replacement, drain line installation, and outfall reconstruction — as standalone drainage programs or integrated into roadway reconstruction work.

Roadway & Utility Coordination

Road projects that involve underground utility relocation or replacement — water main, sewer, and drain work sequenced with grading and paving under one contract.

Urban Street Reconstruction

Dense urban corridors with congested underground utilities, occupied buildings, narrow staging, and constant traffic pressure. The work we've done in Boston doesn't allow for re-dos.

Built To
Spec

Every road we build goes down to the same specification: verified subbase, MassDOT-approved mixes, compaction testing, and ADA-compliant ramps. The pavement is only as good as what's underneath it.

Pavement Specs
MassDOT M3.11.03 / AASHTO M20; SM-9.5 & BM-25 mixes
Subbase
Processed gravel, 95% std. Proctor compaction
Curbing
Type VA granite, ASTM C615; concrete Type F/G per plan
ADA Compliance
PROWAG 2011; detectable warning surfaces installed
Traffic Control
MUTCD Part 6; flagging, signage, detour management
Service Area
Massachusetts, NH, Maine, Rhode Island

All roadway work is performed to the current MassDOT Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges, or the project's town-specific specs where applicable. Pavement mix designs are submitted and approved before paving begins.

Traffic control plans prepared by our team and submitted for approval before mobilization. No flagging improvised in the field — staging sequences and detour routes are defined before crews show up.
