Water
Infrastructure
Full-system water main replacements, lead service line removals, and distribution upgrades — delivered under live pressure, without shutting down service to occupied buildings.
From Main
to Meter
Water infrastructure work doesn't pause for the buildings on either side of the trench. Every scope we take on — from full main replacement to individual service transfers — is staged to maintain continuous flow to every connected property.
Full-system replacement of aged cast iron, ductile iron, and asbestos cement mains — 4" through 48". New main installed parallel to existing, services transferred as sections are tested and cleared.
Full removal of lead and galvanized service lines from main to meter, LCRR-compliant. Resident notification, temporary water service during excavation, meter pit restoration, and inventory data entry included.
Gate valve replacement, fire hydrant installation, meter vault construction, and blow-off assembly work — executed as standalone programs or integrated into main replacement contracts.
Upsizing undersized mains to meet fire flow and peak demand, looping dead-end systems to eliminate bacteriological issues, and pressure zone reconfigurations for new development.
Wet taps and hot taps into live pressurized mains without system shutdown — when an outage isn't possible. Staged tie-ins with bypass if needed. All wet-tap work per water authority standard practice.
24/7 response for main breaks, valve failures, and service disruptions. Bypass pumping, rapid excavation, and same-day repair — operating under emergency procurement frameworks with water authority approval.
The Field
Protocol
Water main work under occupied streets requires a sequenced approach — not just excavation. We stage it so no building loses water, no service fails a pressure test twice, and the authority gets a fully documented record set.
Potholing and verification of all utilities within the work zone before first excavation. Service addresses, meter locations, and valve charts confirmed against the water authority's records.
New main installed parallel to existing. Services transferred one block at a time as each section is tested, disinfected, and cleared. No water interruption to occupied properties.
AWWA C651 chlorination, 24-hour contact time, bacteriological clearance. Hydrostatic pressure test at 150 PSI. No tie-in to the distribution system until the authority signs off on test results.
Final tie-ins to existing system, valve operation verified, old main abandoned in place or removed. Full record set — as-builts, test reports, lead service inventory — furnished to system owner.
Where We
Run Pipe
Municipal water programs, authority contract work, trunk main installation — and the occasional 2 AM main break. We run in all of these conditions, often on the same contract.
Multi-year, phased replacement programs under MassDEP compliance schedules. Coordinated with local DPW for pavement restoration, traffic management, and community notification.
Federal LCRR compliance — full removal of lead and galvanized service lines within municipal replacement programs. Inventory data submitted to the utility's GIS and compliance tracking system.
Approved contractor for Boston Water and Sewer Commission and Massachusetts Water Resources Authority work — large-diameter trunk mains, valve chambers, and service districts.
Converting dead-end systems to looped networks, upsizing undersized mains for fire flow compliance, and rebalancing pressure zones across development corridors.
Road, rail, and waterway crossings for transmission mains — including HDD under active traffic, open-cut with full traffic management, and directional bore under waterways.
Main breaks, pressure failures, and crib emergencies — mobilized within hours under emergency procurement. Bypass pumping, rapid excavation, and same-day repair with authority field inspector on-site.
How We
Document It
Water authority work runs on paperwork. Test reports, as-builts, lead service inventory, and bacteriological clearance — all furnished before we request final payment.
All water main work is executed per the applicable water authority's standard specifications. We hold current pre-qualifications with BWSC, MWRA, and municipal water departments across New England.
As-built drawings are furnished in the authority's preferred format — CAD, GIS shapefile, or PDF. Lead service line records are entered directly into the utility's inventory database at completion of each address.
